This three hour workshop is also another way to experience letterpress for all skill levels and ages. Simply put, each student will design and layout a medium sized 11” x 17” poster using our larger wood and metal type. The benefit and fun of working with these, is it’s like playing with blocks. The tactile hands on approach with large shapes helps them fall together on the page, and a nice approach to typesetting.

Each student should leave with 8-12 posters, depending on the time and skill level. It’s not a race, and there is encouragement to try multiple colors, and slight variations, and layering.

Try and think of a simple phrase or saying, something you would like the poster to say, or if you are daring enough…bring yourself and improvise off the cuff. Maybe if you listen close enough, the type will speak to you…and tell you what it wants to say.

Please be conscious that cleanup and putting your type away responsibly takes time, and is part of the full letterpress experience.
